News on Austin Rivers, Amir Williams, & Michael Gbinije

Austin Rivers will take an unofficial visit to Durham and will attend Duke’s annual team banquet on Thursday, April 22nd.  Rivers had been expected to attend the Duke-UNC game at Cameron Indoor earlier this year but was unable to make it when his high school team’s state title game ended up being scheduled for the same day.  Thursday’s visit is the make-up for the missed game.

Amir Williams, a 6-9 220lb 4-star rated recruited by both Rivals.com and Scout.com may also attend the Duke team banquet as well.  Duke has been in contact with Williams for a few months now.

Finally, recent Duke commit Michael Gbinije has confirmed that he will in attendance Thursday night.

New 2011 Prospect? Nate James Visits Tyler Adams

In the world of college basketball the recruiting game never stops for coaches.  Even during the regular season it is common for both head and assistant coaches to check in on prospects.  In this regard, the Duke staff is no different than any other school – the Duke Coaches continue to “do their homework” on upcoming players on a regular basis.

Recently, Coach Nate James has been hitting the recruiting trail hard for Duke.  Last week Nate was in Detroit to visit with both Trey Zeigler and Amir Williams.  However, Detroit was not Nate’s only stop.  James also swung by Mississippi to check out class of 2011 center Tyler Adams.  At 6’9” 260lbs, Adams is a big bodied inside presence that has consistently shown the ability to rebound and score points off tip-ins & put-backs.  He is still developing on both the offensive and defensive ends, but has significant upside and shown willingness to continue to improve his skill set.

Going forward, Duke and Adams will continue to be in contact.  However, Adams is not an official target for the coaching staff yet as Duke is still in the evaluation stages with Tyler.

Class of 2011 Center Amir Williams gets a Visit from Nate James

ESPN Scouts Inc. is reporting that Duke Coach Nate James recently stopped by Detroit Country Day School to watch class of 2011 center Amir Williams in action.  Williams is a 4 star rated recruit according to both Scout.com and Rivals.com.  The 6’9” 220lb Williams is also being recruited by Michigan, Kentucky, Michigan State, UCLA, and Ohio State.  While playing in front James the other night Williams scored 12 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots.
