Update – JP Tokoto and Austin Rivers

It’s a busy time of year for college and high school basketball players alike.  At the college level teams are looking to qualify for the postseason while at the high school level playoffs are already underway.  For many top recruits and prospects schedules are changing on a daily basis depending on the performance of their teams in state championship tournaments.  Unfortunately for college basketball fans, this often means that prospects have to cancel visits to schools that are recruiting them.

Duke is one school that is not immune to the above problem.  Duke has invited several top prospects from the classes of 2010, 2011, and 2012 to attend the upcoming game between the Blue Devils and the archrival North Carolina Tar Heels.

One prospect invited to the game is class of 2012 forward JP Tokoto.  Unfortunately, Tokoto recently found out that his high school team has a playoff game the same day as the Duke-UNC matchup.  Luckily for Duke, Tokoto’s game is early in the day and the Tokoto family is looking into flights down to Durham as JP has expressed an interest in seeing the Duke-UNC game in person if possible.   Although this is a good sign for Duke, there is still no guarantee that the Tokoto family will be able to work out the logistics.

Austin Rivers, Duke’s top target for the class of 2011 also has a potential conflict.  Rivers indicated some time ago that he planned to attend this years Duke-UNC game at Cameron Indoor.  However, his high school team is widely regarded as one of the top teams in Florida and is expected to make the state finals.  If Austin’s team makes the final game, Rivers will be on the court just a few hours before the Duke-North Carolina matchup tips off.  If this scenario plays out, then Rivers may be unable to make the trip up to Durham.

Despite these potential scheduling conflicts several other top prospects are expected to be at the game.

Top Recruits & Prospects Attending Duke vs. UNC

The annual Duke – North Carolina game at Cameron Indoor Stadium continues to be a favorite stop for top recruits and prospects.  Let’s hope this years matchup between the Blue Devils and the Tar Heels does not disappoint those in attendance.

JP Tokoto Set to Visit Duke Again?

JP Tokoto, the highly sought after top ranked small forward of the class of 2012 is considering taking an unofficial visit to Duke for the upcoming game against North Carolina on March 6th.  If Tokoto decides to attend, it would be the second time this season that the class of 2012 prospect has taken in a Blue Devil – Tar Heel matchup as he previously attended Duke vs. UNC in Chapel Hill.  The visit would also be Tokoto’s third trip to Durham.  Tokoto previously attended Duke’s elite camp over the summer and also briefly stopped by campus before the first Duke – North Carolina matchup in Chapel Hill.  The invitation to attend Duke – UNC round 2 was first given out a few months back, but the possibility of an unofficial visit by the Tokoto family for the March 6th game picked up steam during the family’s stop in Durham in February.  Although Tokoto is certainly interested in attending the matchup, he and his family are working out their schedules and have not been able to finalize a trip at this point in time.  Blue Devil Insider will follow-up as soon as Tokoto’s final plans are known.

Several other top prospects are also expected to attend the second Duke – North Carolina matchup.  The list of players expected to attend includes Shabazz Muhammad, Austin Rivers, Quincy Miller, and Justin Anderson.  As usual, the Blue Devil – Tar Heel game continues to be a hot ticket for recruits and prospects.

Shabazz Muhammad Set to Visit Duke for UNC Game

One of the best recruiting tools for Duke Basketball has historically been the annual Duke-UNC game at Cameron Indoor Stadium.  Most years, the Duke staff invites several prospects to the game in order to give them a first hand view of the “Duke experience’.  2010 is shaping up to no different.  Early in January Austin Rivers (Duke’s top guard target for 2011) confirmed that he would attend this years Duke-UNC matchup at Cameron Indoor.  However, Rivers is not the only prospect scheduled to attend the event.  Blue Devil Insider has confirmed that class of 2012 wing forward Shabazz Muhammad is also scheduled to attend the game.  For Muhammad, the visit will be unofficial as official visits are restricted to a prospect’s senior year.  Muhammad does not yet have a scholarship offer from Duke, but the program is evaluating him as a target.  In 2012 Duke is also considering the following wing prospects: JP Tokoto, Justin Anderson, and Amile Jefferson.
